I have and apple pay account and want to register it. When I click on "set up account" at tfl.gov.uk, I get the message: Request Blocked. I was connected with a service tech but they kept trying to help me set up an apple pay account instead of figuring out how I can register it with TFL. I tried the process on both mu iphone and an ASUS computer and got the same message. Anyone have a solution for me.
Thanks for the info, so glad I can use Apple Pay for my upcoming trip
You can travel using Apple Pay only, no need to attach to an Oyster. Or, simply use a contactless credit card.
As with the previous response, there is no need to register as a visitor. Registration does facilitate using contactless if you have one of the Travelcards that go over 7 days or have concessions (discounts) for age or disability, but few visitors benefit from those.
Just use your phone to tap in and out, it will track your journeys, cap it for the day (like the oystercard), bill you once for the day, and if you are there long enough, it will cap for the week.
I have an account with TFL. I can't access it from the US. They block the IP addresses. (Trying to prevent international hackers.)
Works fine when I'm in the UK.
No need to set up an account with TFL to use Apple Pay or contactless. An account for an Oyster Card is good because you can see how much you have left on it, can top it up away from a station, and if lost you can get credit.
But if using Apple Pay.....none of that is necessary.
Do it when you are in London. It is handy to have a record of transactions if something goes wrong to identify it but it isn't required for use for travel.
Just returned from London. Wife used her bank contactless card no international fee and I use iPhone. I have my iPhone wallet payment linked to my no international fee credit card. For the 15 yrs twins, I did get them their own Oyster card with a - Young Visitor discount. Once you purchase the Oyster card take it to one of the attendants and they will update to a Young Visitor so they will get the discount. At the end of our trip we just got a refund of a few pounds, but not the cost of the card. We chalked that up as a souvenir.
Easy solution - don't bother, it's really not necessarily. Only commuters really need any of the account functionality really.
And if you really need it, just wait until arrival as it will work there
I do want to have an account for my Oyster card to get the disabledrailcard discount. Can I register the card at Heathrow or do I need to go elsewhere?
Thanks for the info I was under the impression I needed to set up an account and when I asked the question, the techs at "just answer" apparently are not connected with TFL and didn't know about the url problem. So glad to know I can use Apple Pay with no problem
Carol now retired - assuming you have, or will be getting a disabled railcard you do not need a tfl account to get the discount added, You can just present your railcard and ask a member of staff at any tube station . I did it with my senior railcard only a couple of weeks ago and it took about 30 seconds.
I would suggest setting up Apple express transit mode when paying by iPhone. Once set up there is no need to wake up, unlock and authorize payment like you do at point of sale systems. Saves time as you enter and exit the tube and prevents line backing up at busy times.
If you have a 3 year railcard you may need to set it up with TfL staff each year- they certainly couldn't set mine up for the whole 3 years. Not a problem as such, a minor niggle. The staff couldn't understand why that was, I'm not sure if it was because somehow I got 3 years and 1 week, rather than the straight 3 years.
