Conrad London St. James or Marylebone Hotel

Hi all - We are traveling next April and trying to decide between the Conrad London St. James or Marylebone Hotel (the prices are comparable). We were last in London decades ago so it is essentially our first trip (for ten days) and we hope to see as much of the city as possible. The areas, as far as we can tell, are different (one more residential, one more tourist-oriented). Any advice on how to weigh the two options would be appreciated. Thanks.

What are your interests while in London? I

have not stayed at either hotel, but based strictly on location I would choose the Conrad St. James. Your a few minutes walk from the lovely St. James Park, Westminster Abbey , the Palace of Westminster and the St. James tube station for the convenient District/Circle lines. Not far from the Thames to take a stroll along the South Bank with the wonderful views of London. A short walk to Buckingham Palace, Horse Guards Parade.

The Marlybone is convenient for the Oxford Street department stores, but I found this area to be more commercial.

The Marylebone has an 8.5 rating on Booking.com. The Conrad S.t James scores a 9.0. I’ve found these differences in booking.com ratings to be significant and noticeable.

Thanks everyone for the responses; they provide good food for thought. As for our interests, we intend to see the major tourist sites, but also will try to get a feel for the city of London, recognizing that we will only be making the tiniest of surface scratches.
