My husband and I will be in London Sept. 19-23 on a 14 day Best of England tour. While we're there, we would like to attend an evening concert at St. Martin-in-the -Fields. Does anyone know if tickets need to be purchased in advance? Thanks for your help.
Mary
I bought them the day of, in the afternoon in front of the church at a bit of a discount.
I don't know about at the door.
I purchased them the day before and still plenty of tickets available (granted, that was in autumn mid-week). Unless you really want to sit up close to the musicians, the seats in the side boxes are cheaper and you can hear just as well--you may have to share a box with other concert goers but consider it just another way to chat with other travelers.
Thanks for the information!
You can also sometimes catch a free concert rehearsal in the church at around noon on some days.
Take a look at the web site for St. Martin in the fields. You can decide what you want to hear as both evening and noon concerts are listed. For some of the more popular concerts, such as anything by candlelight, you will want to get them before the night of the concert. BTW, the side seats are not especially comfortable and have blocked views.
Has anyone here ever successfully completed a purchase of tickets via their website? I know, sounds like a silly question, but I've been trying for 3 days, and it always ends up with some weird error about [an IP address] has exceeded its limit. I have tried this from multiple browsers across 4 different computers running Windows and Mac, from two different locations that have super-fast, reliable internet connections. Their ticket vending service is obviously broken right now - I just wonder if that's a temporary thing or if it's worth it to keep trying...
If you need a quick meal before the concert, the Cafe in the Crypt has good food and it is a fun experience. My daughter and I enjoyed our meal very much!
