Clothes for Southern England in September

Traveling from Canterbury down the coast to Cornwall mid to late September. Any suggestions on clothing -- long pants? closed shoes? sandals? I want to pack light, but it's so hard to predict what we'll need!

Layers.

Its Fall. You are on the coast.

Mid 60’s.

No sandals. Closed shoes.

Could be a heatwave; could be chucking it down.

September is often a good month. Sandals and shorts are quite possible.

No one knows.

Plan for 12-25C. Current signal for early September is a bit above average but you are asking about a month off.

Every year is different so my comment is just a snapshot in time. In mid-September 2013 I wore short sleeves on occasion but also needed a light jacket on some days. My wife wore light weight tops with a light jacket or sweater most of the time.

Take a lightweight rain jacket (with hood) that is waterproof, not water-resistant. You may need it, you may not.

I’ll be on the south coast of England in West Sussex mid to late Sept, based on my past experience at this time of year, and watching my weather app, I’m taking clothes for weather in the 60s-70s and a light rain jacket with a hood, as Rebecca recommended.

could be hot, could be mild, could be cold.

September is often better than August.

Could be wet, could be dry.

After our exceedingly hot and dry summer we might get some rain or drizzle. Or not....

I'd suggest layers which can be put on or left in the luggage as needed...

Bring a brolly and take it everywhere in September unless the morning forecast is for bone dry.

The weather this year hasn’t followed the usual pattern, so ask a week before your trip. It’s usually sandal weather in September - at least during the day. Likewise, it could be raining. The evenings are certainly drawing in and cooling down.
