I will be in London from the from October 27 thru the 4 of November but I will like to visit Edinburgh, Cambridge, Oxford and possibility spending overnight. Will a city pass works for me. I will be in London for about 4 full days?

Yes Stay as you go. But return to London for about 4 days. Also going to the Houston Texans games.
Do you have the 4th (Monday) of November and you fly out on Tuesday? Or do you fly out on the 4th so that's not a day you can do some or any sightseeing? What time's the flight?
Do you get in on the 27th (Sunday)? What time? Where will you be staying?
So am I right that you will be out of town all one day for Cambridge, another day for Oxford, and two days and one night given over to Edinburgh? And one more for the football game, so really 5 days away from London sightseeing?
Is this your first visit to London? What have you seen in previous visits?

Don't buy a visitor oyster card, it's a more restrictive product than the normal oyster which you can buy easily when you get here and definitely don't buy anything from Visit Britain as I've seen quite a few complaints about them over the years.
