Will be in London September 22 to 27, 2023. We would like to go out to Chartwell House. Any recommendations as to best way to do that?
Train and bus.
Lots of properties in London and UK are called Chartwell.
To avoid confusion use this link: https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/kent/chartwell
Note that the bus from Bromley North station only runs into Chartwell on a Summer Sunday- which means 23 September for you.
This is a red London bus (although running beyond the London boundary) thus the standard £1.75 London bus fare applies, paid by Oyster or contactless methods.
This is the timetable- http://www.londonbusroutes.net/times/246Sum.htm
On other days of the week you have to walk down a country lane to get there, or hire a taxi. If taxi then Sevenoaks station is much the bigger station to get one from.
But Sunday is the easiest day to visit.
We had a rental car when we visited. On the same day we also visited Ightham Mote, a 700 year old manor house and another National Trust property. It’s 13 miles east of Chartwell, but probably not easy to reach if relying on public transportation. Both properties were very much worth visiting.
