London's Chinatown neighborhood is near Soho roughly between Shaftesbury Ave and Lisie Street. We do the walk around and look method of picking a restaurant. There was a nice dumpling restaurant on the outskirts of Chinatown that was casual and crowded.

Indian food must be the most popular going out dining experience in London. It seems every neighborhood has a good Indian restaurant.

I agree that Y Ming is very good.

In central London the Masala Zone chain is good value for money and a cut above your usual curry house. I also enjoy Imli in Wardour Street.

We have enjoyed a number of dinners at Masala Zone over the past twelve years. Both the Soho and Coventry Garden locations are nice.

We've been eating at Punjab for almost 30 years...stumbled onto it during our first trip to London and have been going back ever since. We always go for dinner there on our last night in London and then walk to the Thames to listen to Big Ben chime the hour. Makes for a great night every time!

Anita---unfortunately, you won't be able to enjoy Big Ben's chimes after your dinner at Punjab for awhile---the big bell will fall silent on Monday for repairs to the tower, apparently for four years.

I was not aware of this! Just checked Parliament's website and it appears there's been a bit of a furore......

On Monday 21 August 2017 following the 12 noon chimes Big Ben’s bongs will temporarily cease. While vital restoration work takes place, the Great Bell’s world famous striking and chiming will be paused until 2021 to ensure the safety of those working in the Tower. Parliament’s specialist clock mechanics will ensure that Big Ben can still bong for important national events such as New Year’s Eve and Remembrance Sunday.
UPDATE:
When Parliament returns, in light of concerns expressed by a number of MPs, the House of Commons Commission will consider the length of time that the bells will fall silent. Of course, any discussion will focus on undertaking the work efficiently, protecting the health and safety of those involved, and seeking to ensure resumption of normal service as soon as is practicable given those requirements.

Was just at Bazoi Inn earlier this year, it's great and cheap. However my favorite Chinese (Schiuan) restaurant in London is Barshu. It's a little more upscale but everything there is to die for.

I usually go to New World for dim sum because I like push carts but the quality is hit or miss. Imperial China is better quality.

Delhi Grill is far and away my favorite Indian place in London, because it has actual chaat. Their tandoori is phenomenal.

I would avoid Brick Lane, it's touristy and the food is eh.
