My daughter and I will driving from Inverness to Cornwall next year. As the designated navigator and more than used to reading maps, thought it would make a nice change to see a bit more of the countryside this time around. Looking for advice as to where we could pick up a relatively cheap GPS in London.
Hello
GPS are sold by many stores these days. Large branches of Tesco and Sainsbury supermarkets; Halfords (car accessories chain); Curry/PC World (electronic and white goods stores), to name just a few of the most obvious chains. You could also check out whether your own personal mobile devices can be used without network charges and with a suitable car mount.
Thanks for your replies. My daughter has GPS capabilities on her phone. Need to enquire how to use this function in the UK without incurring crippling data charges.
what kind of phone? If compatible, NavFree as mentioned above. Download on wifi and then no further data costs.
My daughter's phone is a Sony Xperia. I will pass on the download info to her (more particularly to her husband!!!) Thanks for your advice
I think it's better to buy one here, learn to use it, and pack it with you. Look at Amazon.com. You should be able to find one with European maps for around $125, including shipping. I prefer TomTom, second choice Garmin.
I've purchased a few this way over the years. I had a bad experience when one didn't work out of the box. TomTom customer service was helpful but couldn't fix it. They had me mail the unit to Texas and everything went downhill from there - they sent me a lesser model (twice) so I ended up with something that worked but was less than I ordered (and reconditioned rather than new). If it doesn't work out of the box, return it for a refund and get a new one rather than send your unit to Texas.
