"Cheap" flights in/out of Britain during summer

I am going to be in the UK in July 2015, based out of Edinburgh. There are very reasonably priced flights out of Edinburgh but I wonder how quickly they book up, is there any companies who are just awful and I welcome any advice on using those.

Second, I have cousins in the Cotswold area and Greater Manchester area. Flying seems to be cheaper than train. Thoughts?

I've thought about contacting a British travel agent to help with the details of planning. Any thoughts?

In looking at Wikipedia's "Edinburgh Airport" listing, it appears that you can fly all over Europe from there. Other than London, flights around England are really missing for the European budget air carriers.

You might be best served by trains.

The most useful site for finding flights is http://www.skyscanner.net
Put in where you wish to fly from & to, then, click WHOLE MONTH view as that will show the flight price variables. Click on those that interest you and you get the airlines and times.

www.nationalrail.co.uk is the best way to find UK train schedules. Prices can be expensive for longer journeys where you pay on the day but MUCH cheaper for booking ahead on specific trains. Try and avoid Fridays & commuting times Monday to Friday. This site will tell you whether it is cheaper to split your ticket.http://www.splityourticket.co.uk

Most Brits would use the train rather than fly the distances mentioned.
