Chatsworth

What’s a good place to stay when visiting Chatsworth? What else should we see when we’re in that area?

There's lots to see in the Peak District, but my two reccommendations, if you like history, are Hardwick Hall and Bolsover Castle.

We visited Chatsworth, Bolsover Castle, Hardwick Hall and Haddon Hall this May. We stayed in Buxton, a lovely little town. We stayed at the Roseleigh Guest House in Buxton which I would recommend without hesitation. Comfortable room with ample heat we could regulate (it dropped to 32 one fine evening this May), friendly and helpful owners, an excellent breakfast, parking on site. The Roseleigh sits in a park overlooking a pond or small lake. Lots of restaurants, pubs and a theatre as well that seemed popular but we didn’t have the time. The historic houses were 30 to 50 minutes away, nice ride in between. Consider joining the Historic Houses Association. We saved a lot on admissions, but not all properties above may be included...I’ve forgotten exactly which were as we stayed two weeks and visited many places. Locals suggested we visit Matlock and Matlock Bath but we didn’t have time. Bakewell of tart fame is also nearby as I recall. Safe travels.

I will be returning to The Peak this coming Autumn and have booked a hotel in Buxton . There are points of interest there , and it is a good base for exploring the area ( Chatsworth is about 14 miles , Castleton is 9 miles ) . Matlock Bath is also worth a visit , read about Sir Richard Arkwright and his work before you go . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Arkwright This documentary will enrich your visit to Chatsworth - https://youtu.be/LWBg8TmePDQ

I enjoyed visiting Chatsworth, but I enjoyed visiting Haddon Hall even more. Also second the vote for Hardwick Hall.
