Changing at Waterloo & Tottenham

We have to change from South Western Railway at Waterloo to the tube (it looks like the Northern Line) to go to Tottenham Court Road Station, and there we have to change to the Elizabeth Line to go on to the Hayes & Harlington Station. Can anyone tell me if either of these two changes is particularly complicated or involves going outside the station? Thank you very much.

No you don’t have to go out of the station. Everything is very well signposted. Follow the signs and you won’t go wrong. There could be quite a long walk at Waterloo as you are changing from National Rail to the tube but they really make it as easy as possible and I would say it’s very difficult to get lost.

At Tottenham Court Road you are just changing lines without having to go above ground so that is even easier. Again, just follow the many signs.

Hayes and Harlington is a bit of a dump but presume you are just staying there overnight before a flight.

occasionally we get people changing trains at Hayes and Harlington but I am certain that your is the first time somebody has stayed there on this Forum. I go to Hayes for the Costco but I never considered staying there... please write a trip report after to let us know how it went.

by the way - about the title of your question - it is Waterloo Station and Tottenham Court Road if you are trying to get help from locals when here. There are loads of places with similar names. Ask for Tottenham and you will be several miles away from where you want to be, it is one of the towns of north London (with an area called Little Russia to the top of the town), not the Underground/Elizabeth Line station you want.

@Helen

Thank you. And you're correct -- we just wanted a place close to the airport. We'll be there two nights, but the one entire day we're there, we're hopping on the train and going somewhere for a day trip. Is it an unsafe area? We are staying on Dawley Road.

@Nigel

As I said to Helen, this isn't a trip to Hayes, so the only thing I hope to have to report is how the Asda is and how easy it was to get to Heathrow! Thanks for the advice about the subject line. I was going for conciseness, but I get your point. Tottenham is where the Spurs are, right? It's the name I couldn't understand when I was asking for directions one year, because, at the time, my American ears were expecting "tot - uhn - ham."

I couldn't begin to say if it is an "unsafe" area or not as I don't know that precise road. But north of the tracks and nearby is all large warehouses, and undoubtedly heavy trucks, and south of the tracks gets into standard working class housing, semis and terraces. AirBnb?
