We will arrive at Heathrow on July 20 and need to get transportation to Southampton for a cruise departing the next day. We used to use Smith’s but they have gone out of business. We are older and don’t want to hassle with taking luggage on and off a train or bus. Can you recommend a reasonably priced and reliable car service? Thank you.
On our own recently completed trip we used Uber to get from Heathrow to (in our case) Portsmouth to catch the Brittany Ferry. Cost of the door to door service was about USD $ 160 as I recall.
After collecting our bags we walked around to the Sofitel to grab a cup of coffee, a light snack, and generally decompress before the 1.5 hour drive which worked out well for us.
For info, if you're not a registered guest at the hotel there's an additional $10 service charge for using the service.
Our circumstances are similar to yours. We thought the cost was well worth the comfort and convenience of the door to door service.
In September 2022, we used Blacklane to get from Portsmouth to Windsor. It was a great ride, but it cost at least twice as much Robert's Uber trip.
Just a heads up, make sure that the Uber app on your phone will work in the UK. I was unable to get it to work in Edinburgh - it required a verification process that I couldn't complete since I don't have my credit card app on my phone.
