Car service for after concert in London

We are heading to London for my 50th birthday this summer and, as luck would have it, we are seeing Bruce Springsteen at Wembley on my actual birthday. It wasn't the purpose of our trip (we've been to London many times), but was a happy coincidence.

We are taking my in-laws and they will be coming to the concert with us. I would like to splurge on a car service to take us back to our flat near Lexham Gardens (not far from Earl's Court) after the concert. I am normally a budget traveler and extremely public transit savvy, but the late hour, combined with two older inexperienced travelers and it being my birthday, and it dawned on me there might be an easier way than the crowded Tube we have to make a run for.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I contacted the often recommended Blackberry, but they only do airport runs.

Thanks!

I assume there will be a bunch of taxis around the arena after the concert.

Thanks. There are four of us, and I wanted to guarantee we had one car.

Well if you were to take a traditional black cab there’s plenty of room for 4 passengers. Won’t be cheap ( it’s nearly 30 miles) but a black cab would hold all of you.

Have you researched Addison Lee cars?

it is only about 8 miles as the crow flies from Wembley Stadium to Lexham Gardens. The problem with ordering a minicab is you have to find them in the crowd. They can't ply for hire so they must be pre-ordered. With a black cab you just step in to the first one and go...

combinations of bus and tube all take over an hour.

Whilst I'm sure that there will be plenty of black cabs around Wembley on the night, there will also be a lot of punters looking for a ride. The stadium holds 90,000 and even if only 5% are looking for a cab that's still 4,500 people or over 1,000 cabs. I think I would be ringing for a company to pick me up and take their advice about where would be a sensible place to meet up. That might mean a bit of a walk away from the stadium. Someone more local than me might also be able to advise on where that could be.

Wembley Stadium holds 90,000 people for concerts. The process for getting this huge number of people on to the tube is very well managed but as you can imagine you are in an enormous crowd that is moving very slowly. It will take over an hour to get onto a train from the concert ending.

I have never seen the taxi rank at the stadium so I can’t help you with that but I do agree that with older people it would probably be easier.

Fairly short walk to the Hilton London Wembly. Walk to the hotel have a drink and arrange for the service to pick you up there an hour after the end of concert. Not sure of your accommodations but if you are staying at a hotel you could ask them to make arrangements.

London is, of course, a major city of the world. It must have dozens of what we in the US call "black car" companies to take the Lords Of Private Equity home after a busy day ruling the world. If you had a hotel, you could just ask for their land travel partner. Part of the problem is that few posters on this newsboard use black cars, especially abroad. (I often use one to get to the airport in the US, however.)

I share the concern about gridlocked streets and trouble finding the car. Usually the driver gives you his cellphone number, but you still have to push through huge pedestrian crowds to get to another location than the door you come out of the arena.

There is absolutely no chance of any sort of car getting anywhere near the exit to Wembley on such a night. The suggestion of going to the Hilton for a post concert birthday drink sounds very sensible to me, as long as a few hundred other concert goers don’t have the same idea.

There are a number of car companies that can be relied on in London and very many more that I would not touch with a barge pole.

Thanks all! I checked with Addison and they are reasonable and give a good window of time to meet them.
Thanks to everyone. I think I have what I need.

Happy travels!
