Car rentals on outskirts of London

We plan to go from central London by Taxi to Heathrow to rent car there enroute to Bath. Suggestions?

I see that this is a follow-on question from your last question, where you indicate that you have five travelers. In that case a taxi ride can make sense to get to Heathrow, but be prepared for it to cost £50 or more.

Yes thank you.
I get that. but with 5 isn't that about what train etc public would cost?

The tube fare is £5.10 peak, £3.10 off-peak from central London to Heathrow, although of course you would need onward travel to the car hire location.

I always rent directly at Heathrow and have had no problems avoiding the city and getting on to the freeway to the Cotswolds. Just follow the signs and maybe have your GPS from home so you are familiar with it.

even though I can drive a manual (my car is) when I am in GB I always rent an automatic. I don't want another thing to worry about as I am getting used to driving on the opposite side. I could probably do it, but I enjoy driving and don't want it to be more stressful than it has to be. I am careful to pay attention as I do not want to end up driving in London:)

The Avis Car Rental at the White Harte has permanently closed. The closest place to get a rental near Moreton-in-Marsh in Shipston-on-Stour.

I was about to ask a similar question. My husband and I are planning a similar itinerary, but we'll be arriving at Gatwick. Is it better to rent a car there, or take a train or bus to Bath, and rent it there?

We're staying in London before heading to the Cotswolds and after checking out car rentals we've decided to take the train to Oxford to pick up our vehicle..... it was going to cost us $100 more to rent at the Heathrow so thought why not get out of London to pick up the car and miss that traffic & cost! Besides that, we like the train but need a car to explore mid-England then on the the Lake District & Scotland before flying out of Edinburgh. No drop off charge!
