Car Rental in Cotswolds, where?

My wife and I will be travelling from North Wales, probably Conwy and heading toward the Cotswolds. Where would I need to train to in order to rent a car? If it makes a difference, planning on homebasing in Stow-in-the-Wold.

thanks

I was not coming from Wales, but I was staying near Stow, and I found renting a car in Oxford to be fairly easy. The Europcar location was a short taxi ride from the train station, and out of the center of the city, so it was a straight shot to head into the Cotswolds. I arranged my rental with www.gemut.com in the US.

I'd guess that from North Wales by train you'd come east to Chester or Crewe (or both) and then Birmingham New Street whence you can take a Cross Country train one stop to Cheltenham. Nice easy drive to Stow on the Wold (where the wind blows cold). I'd be surprised if you can't get a car near the Cheltenham station.

I've never tried, mind, I drive my own car to see family in Cheltenham so have never needed to.

Or you could go just beyond Birmingham New Street to Birmingham International for Birmingham Airport. I know for a fact that all the majors are in the terminal there and they have a decent selection, especially if you need an automatic. You can either drive out of the airport onto the M42 southbound to the M42 westbound to the M5 southbound to Cheltenham - or M42 southbound to M40 southbound to A46 (junction 15) and off the roundabout at the A429 towards Wellesbourne and Halford, joining the Fosse Way at Halford; the continuing in pretty much a straight line through Moreton in Marsh and up into Stow on the Wold (where the wind blows cold as my auntie always used to say).
