4 of us are planning a 4 week auto trip through the UK next year. Any suggestion for car rental /leasing for such an extended period of time?

I think most of the leases are through France, though pick up and drop off is available in other countries for additional charges. I have leased through Auto Europe and had a good experience with them. We had a minimum of 4 adults (sometimes 5-7 for day trips) in our vehicle. We got a minivan with captains chairs in the middle row to be more comfortable for adults plus have room for our luggage.
We did a lease last year. The biggest drawback to a lease is that you will be driving a left hand drive car in a right hand drive world but remember that hundreds of thousands of people do it every year. The only part that was really difficult was passing on a two lane road and the occasional toll booth and since you will have someone in the right seat it becomes only an inconvenience. One nice thing about the lease is that you will know to the penny exactly what it is going to cost when you make the reservation as opposed to rentals where they hit you with the costs of additional drivers, full CDW, airport pick-up and drop-off fees etc. The other nice thing is that when you get to the counter they will have the car you reserved, not whatever they have on the lot. We did 2500 miles without putting a scratch on the car. Over the years we have had excellent results with both Renault USA and Auto France.
Have a great trip and just remember, KEEP ON THE LEFT!
I have picked up a French-leased car in the UK, and actually liked driving on the left with a French car. (On narrow roads, the driver didn't have to be so close to the oncoming traffic. But without other people in the car, toll booths were a hassle.) The delivery and pick-up fee for a French car in Britain is about $250, I believe. Regular car rental in Britain, such as through Auto Europe, should be cheaper.
