Hello all - I have secured a rental through Auto Europe for 12 days in October. I’m still figuring out if my Alaska CC will cover car damage, and I’m considering buying Allianz’s rental insurance if I my card doesn’t cover it. It seems to be pretty straightforward, and not terribly expensive. Thoughts? Thank you - Brian
We used to get basic CDW through Allianz when that was the only coverage we bought and fortunately we never had to file a claim.
If you do have CC coverage compare which covers more, the CC or Allianz. That might help you decide. Last time I used it Allianz coverage was fairly inexpensive.
Insurance is make you peace of mind. Honestly, most of my car rental experiences show that nothing ever happens. You don't need to worry too much. But I think your choice of Allianz is enough and nice.
dare I ask whether your hours of deliberation considered the coverage offered by the actual rental company? Or the deposit you will have to leave if they are not convinced by your seperate cover?
And I would put much faith in Micha, it's only 6 days since he posted elsewhere with similar doubts and he hasn't done that trip yet.
You're right that I haven't taken this trip yet(Romania), which is exactly why I'm asking around to clear up my car rental doubts beforehand(this time will be my first time to hire a car by myself). To answer your question, my family and I have always used Allianz for our car rentals, and we’ve never run into any unexpected fees or claims issues if not consider car rental insurance. My posts and replies are just based on our real experiences and wanting to be well-prepared for my next trip. Let's keep everything peace and love here ;)
