We have such a quick trip. I'd like to be able to see the poppies, but am not sure if I need to devote a half day visit to the Tower (we were there a few years ago). The website says some poppies are visible to the public from the outside. Has anyone been and would you please share if it's best to plan to go inside to get a real feel for the display? Thank you.
I was there a few weeks ago. I am quite sure you wouldn't be able to see the poppies unless you are inside.
A small portion of the poppies are visible from outside… per the website and a couple of pix I saw online. If you were doing something else in the area it might be worth taking a look.
But yes - the main display is located inside the walls and requires a standard entry ticket to view. What you can see from the public footpath is under St. Thomas's Tower.
I saw a recent tourist video on YouTube when they walked past the outside of the Tower and it looked as if there were some visible - possibly around Traitors’ Gate?
There is also a big Ceramic poppy display at the International Bomber Command Centre at Lincoln, centred around a Lancaster bomber formed of poppies.
I saw about it on their Facebook page this morning.
Not sure how long it is there for.
