Hi, all! Please comment on the pluses and minuses of renting a flat in Camden Town, very near the Stables Market. This would be in the days surrounding New Year's Eve. Family of five, all adults. Thanks! Two alternatives are near Porchester Square in Bayswater and the area near Royal Brompton Hospital and St. Luke's and Christ Church. Thanks in advance!
It’s been years since I briefly visited Camden, but I was totally thankful we weren’t staying in that area.
Pluses: Camden area has a lot of character, good bars and restaurants and easy to hit the northern line to the tourist areas. A lot of interesting people watching and generally a lot of fun.
Negatives (or, at least concerns): It can be a bit loud and sketchy at night. We have hit a few shows at The Electric Ballroom and felt that we needed to sneak out of the area due to loud drunken youngsters that were misbehaving. Camdentown Tube Station can be rough around the edges at night. Knife attacks, while rare (especially compared to the violence in the US) are still not uncommon. If you want edgy, I would personally prefer the Spitalfields area but Camden would still be okay.
Royal Brompton Hospital area is a great neighborhood. Lots of restaurants nearby. Not far from South Kensington Station (Piccadilly, District, Circle lines). Good bus service along Fulham Road. Walk to Chelsea and the river.
