Cambridge - King's Lynn - Leicester during Christmas - New Year weeks

I'm considering visiting Cambridge, King's Lynn, and Leicester during the Christmas - New Year season, but unsure about how many interesting places will be open.

Why would I go? I'm hoping to get a ticket (via lottery) for the Nine Lessons & Carols service at King's College, Cambridge, on Christmas Eve afternoon, and then go on to King's Lynn so I can stand outside at Sandringham to see the Royal Family walk to and/or from church on Christmas morning. In Leicester there's a church retreat center where I hope to stay for a few days; I've submitted a request.

Apart from these goals, what else in the area would be fun at that time of year? Indoors, preferably. It seems that most museums and castles are closed. Advice will be most welcome!

Are you interested in history and archeology? The Richard III Visitor Centre in Leicester is open for some of your visit - not sure exactly when you’ll be in Leicester but it’s well worthwhile. From their website:

The King Richard III Visitor Centre is open from 10am every day, all year, except Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Eve and New Year’s Day, and for twelve days in January for annual maintenance.

And you could go into Leicester Cathedral to see his tomb.

The city also has a few other interesting museums including the recently revamped Jewry Wall, telling the story of Romans in Leicester. I expect it will be the same opening hours/days as Richard III.

Thanks, Golden Girl! I am interested in archaeology, and the discovery of the remains of Richard III is certainly fascinating.
