Cambridge in May

My husband and I will be on the Best of England 14 days tour next May which includes Oxford. RS says the month of May is exams time at Cambridge and the colleges are closed. Is it still worth visiting Cambridge in May on our own if the colleges are closed? Thanks!

I visited Cambridge several years ago, by train from London for the day. We walked all around and it was beautiful, but I don't remember visiting any of the colleges on that visit. One thought though. If you are visiting Oxford on the tour do you really want to visit Cambridge, also? For me, it would depend on how much extra time I have after the tour and if there were other things I wanted to do. I've been to both, but the visits were many years apart.

Yes, the colleges are closed for exams- tho you might want to check exactly which dates in May (I'm not sure that it's the entire month). It's absolutely still worth visiting Cambridge- it's a beautiful time of year to be there and you can take a punt on the river Cam etc. There's plenty to see without going inside any colleges.
