Call the midwife tour

I bought a ticket for the call the midwife tour on Sunday, July 7, and I’m just wondering what is the best way to get to the historic boatyard from London? Is it necessary to get a ticket ahead of time?

Chatham Historic Dockyard.

Use Chatham station.

Where in London are you staying?

South Eastern trains run from St Pancras on HS1 and London Victoria on the conventional.lines, also on Thameslink.from St Pancras, Farringdon, City Thameslink, Blackfriars and London Bridge.

No need to book in advance, if you do there are no assigned seats, these are commuter trains.

I’m only going for the day. I booked the same hotel that we’re staying in for the seven day tour from June 30 to July 6. It is the Washington Mayfair hotel in London. thank you so much. I’ll just get a ticket when I get there. I’m actually arriving in the morning of June 28 and I am staying at the Washington Mayfair the entire time I’m there. Looking forward to meeting up with the Rick Steves tour.

So Victoria is the most sensible departure station.

I went to the dockyard a few years ago. There are a few mini tours you can do when you get there, as well as the Call the Midwife tour. Just be aware that "Nonnatus House" isn't there. Which was disappointing for some on the tour.

When I was looking up the Call The Midwife tour, it did mention Nonnatus house is not at the Boatyard. I see that it is in Birmingham!

Due to my career in film and TV locations management was lucky enough to secure a private tour of the historic dockyards. Very interesting place to explore but it’s been a decade since my visit so have no clue how it’s organized these days.

As an aside there’s a reason the term “movie magic” evolved. Before CGI locations were practical or were sets.

In my humble and biased opinion, films such as Lawrence of Arabia, or Gunga Din, or Chinatown or The Fast and The Furious (2001) were enhanced by their location work.

Believe we departed London by train from Victoria Station. Our host met us at the station. Honestly, can’t recall if he drove us or we walked to the Dockyards. All I recall is a lovely and informative day out.
