Bye Bye FlyBMI

Oh dear oh dear, yet another airline finds it impossible to make a go of it...

FlyBMI has flown its last passenger.

400 employees, and I don't know how many of our Forumites will be affected.

Bases in Aberdeen, Brussels, Bristol, East Midlands, Newcastle and Munich - the main centres of operation Aberdeen, Bristol and Munich.

Briefly part of Lufthansa, now known as flybmi, previously known as bmi Regional, and before that as British Midland Commuter.

There could be implications for our Forum members because of codesharing with Lufthansa.

flybmi operated services to 27 or more destinations throughout continental Europe including Scandinavia and also United Kingdom.

Brussels to Bristol is one such link.

It also operated a codeshare with Brussels Airlines from both East Midlands Airport and Newcastle to Brussels.

If any of these routes sound like ones you have bought, it is worth checking.

They had only just won the retendered supported route between Stansted and Derry-Londonderry too.

All aircraft had been repositioned to the UK yesterday or today.

Probably worth adding that Loganair, which has the same parent, continues to operate.

I saw a note on one of the Scottish news feeds I follow on Twitter that Logan Air will pick up some of the Aberdeen routes. Don't know how many they'll be able to pick up nor what kind of gaps that will leave in service.

I had plans to fly them in May. Luckily, I had not yet purchased a ticket.
