Buying Train tickets on Southeastern Railways from the U.S.

Does anyone have any experience buying tickets online from Southeasternrailways.co.uk from the U.S.? If so what was the procedure involved with paying for and actually getting the tickets?

pretty much like buying from any website, use a credit card

simplest is to collect your tickets from a station

TC, While I don't have any experience with South Eastern Railways, I have bought tickets Virgin Trains. The process was quite simple. I purchased the tickets online and on my day of departure, I went to a ticket kiosk, entered a confirmation code along with the credit card I used to purchase the tickets and out they came. Easy Peasy.

Hopefully some of the UK residence will see this post and reply. They are extremely knowledgeable on trains travel in the UK.

Last Spring we purchased on line, used a credit card, and printed the tickets are home. It is pretty easy and just like most of the other ticket sites. Is there some other concern that you did not specifically ask about?

Frank, nothing more than being "old school". As someone said, "To err is human but to foul it up get machines or computers involved". Just trying to get an idea of what to expect.

Frank, I walked through the order page for Southeastern Railways, and didn't see a "print at home" option. They wanted to mail the tickets. At that point I backed off, although I'll go back and try again. Or picking the tickets up at the station would work, if we had a valid receipt. I'd rather have the tickets in my hand, though.

Thanks, Emma. I'm trying to order my tickets now, but the website keeps popping up an error screen. I'll try again later.

Which error, Jane?

Have you put the date in correctly - day - month - year?

Have you notified the credit card company prior to the transaction that you would be making electronic purchases today in England?

Have you run into Secured by Visa or its Mastercard twin?

If you share the error one of us here may recognise it....

I don't have it up on screen right now, but it was a plain text box stating an unexpected error had occurred. I was able later to get in, order my tickets, and even enter my credit card information, then it wouldn't go past that screen. You may be right about alerting my credit card company, although usually if there's a problem my bank calls me to verify the transaction. (Gotta love small town banks!)

I'm going to try again. Thanks for the suggestions.

Okay, I finally got my order placed, and paid for. I don't know what the earlier problem was, perhaps our browser? I'm at a computer at the public library now, not my favorite place to flash a credit card around, but I can sometimes get stuff done here that I can't at home with Ubuntu and Firefox.

I did have to register with the site, and then log in, something that it wouldn't let me do this morning. That was one of the places the error message "We're sorry..." popped up. It turns out it had let me register earlier, it just wouldn't send me the verification or let me log in. So when I tried again to register, it wouldn't let me. After logging in the site did accept my credit card information, but then I encountered the Secured by Visa screen, where I spent a few minutes. Of course I have forgotten my password, so I had to reset that, which meant remembering DH's SS#...

This is all very confusing; sorry if it doesn't help anyone else.

I guess the moral of this story is be very very careful to enter every bit of information exactly correctly, take your time, and, as usual, keep your sense of humor. And if all else fails, try a different computer.

Thanks for the help, everyone.
