Buying train tickets on Great Western Railway

Hi guys,

I am headed to Bath from London on Thursday morning, May 14 and retuning Friday afternoon, May 15. I am looking at the GWR website to buy my train tickets. Since I know the specific trains I want to go and return on, what do I buy?

Under Outward Paddington to Bath Spa, I see:
Advance Single 43.80
Super Offpeak Return 75.90
Offpeak Return 104.70

But then under Return Bath Spa to Paddington, I see:
Advance Single 40

Do I just buy an Advance Single each way?

Thank you !!

Get the super off peak return.

It is a bit cheaper, and it is flexible, you can take any train that runs in super off peak hours.

Advance tickets are valid for the stated journey only - if you miss the train you need to buy another ticket.

It is impossible to give an exact answer without knowing your exact travel plans.

However it sounds as if the Advance is £43.80 outward and £40 back, so £83.80 return.

Outward an Off Peak is not valid until after 9am, and a Super Off Peak until after 10am.

If you don't mind a longer journey time and a change of trains the Advance may be cheaper in or out of Waterloo changing at Salisbury.

If you want flexibility, and are willing to take trains which call at Didcot Parkway (you don't change trains) you could buy an Off Peak Return Paddington to Didcot Parkway £37.80 and a Super Off Peak Return Didcot to Bath for £33.60.
Total £71.40.
Example trains are the 1000 from Paddington (calls Didcot 1036) then almost every train back.

Hi Both,

My plan is to take a 10:30 am train from Paddington to Bath and a 2:00 pm train home. I love the idea of buying the Super Offpeak Return simply to have some flexibility. Does that mean I am flexible both ways? Outward Super Off Peak after 10am? I don't plan to miss my train but you never know!

Thank you!

Yes, totally flexible both ways*

Fare Code YU applies, so 1030 is the first valid train out, and any train after 1000 return with no afternoon peak restrictions London bound. Technically the morning restriction is between 0429 and 1010.

No restrictions apply to the super off peak at weekends.

*Outbound it is not valid ex Paddington in the afternoon between 1504 and 1901. I say that, not really for you but in case anyone else reads this thread in the future.
