Due to a change in plans I won’t have time to get a French SIM by mail. I’m in London and leave for France tomorrow. Can I buy a French SIM in London? Arriving late at night at Nice and worried about not having reliable access to maps, etc.

sorry, you'd buy a French SIM in France.
There isn't much call for one in London.
You can buy a British SIM in London, and O2 at least still roams. Many of the others don't.

How about a UK SIM? I used EE a couple of weeks ago and the service worked fine. They still allow roaming in the EU. Reasonably inexpensive. But you would have a UK phone number.
