I wonder if anyone has been to Butser Ancient Farm just a bit north of Portsmouth? I would love to visit there from Oxford at the beginning of September but I'm very unsure how to take a train there and how to get back and forth between where I would stay and the farm itself. I really don't want to rent a car, but I thought maybe if someone had done this they could give me some advice.
You can get a train from Oxford to Petersfield which is five miles from the Farm, then a taxi.
According to their website you catch a South Western Railway train from Portsmouth to Petersfield, then bus 37 which stops 1/2 mile away. (runs hourly at xx.30 from Petersfield, 17 minute journey)

(the train arrives at xx32 so misses the hourly bus by a fraction)
I love it there, it's a fantastic place.
As has been mentioned, train to Petersfield and then a taxi would be the easiest option. Do you know where you will be staying?
