Bus and train schedules in England

We are planning a trip to England in September. We will not rent a car and, after much consideration, have rejected group tours of Cotwolds in favor of something like Rick's recommended 2 days without a car (described below). It is clear that careful attention to bus schedules is required, so my question is how frequently do bus schedules change? Is there plenty of advance notice? For planning purposes minor changes won't matter, but an hour or deletion of a route could throw a wrench in plans. The same question about trains - are schedules posted now reliable for Sept?

Last question: here is Rick's 2 days without a car using Moreton-in-Marsh as a home base. Any thoughts or suggestions? Additions, deletions? We may be traveling to Moreton on the first morning, so Campden would be a half day. He describes it as being more challenging to hike than Stow. We really like hiking, but we are getting older and slower, so the longer day in Stow may be better for my knees even though it is closer.
Day 1: Bus #1 to Chipping Campden to explore that town. Hike up Dover’s Hill, or take bus #1 to Mickleton (Hidcote Manor Garden) . Eat lunch in Chipping Campden, then either bus #2 to Broad Campden or bus #1 to Broadway before returning directly from Broadway or Chipping Campden to Moreton.
Day 2: Take the morning bus (#801) to Stow. After poking around the town, hike from Stow through the Slaughters to Bourton-on-the-Water (about 3 hours at a relaxed pace), then return by bus or taxi to Moreton for dinner.

The next rail timetable change is in December so the only likely changes are at weekends to suit engineering works. They are meant to be announced 8 weeks out- a schedule not always adhered to.

For buses 6 weeks notice has to be given to change timetables.

Routes 1 and 2 are changing as from 20 July but the changes seem to be 5 or 10 minutes earlier or later, so nothing significant.

These are subsidised routes, so contracts tend to be for a year or so, thus the new times on those routes can be taken as fact.

Service 801 was last revised on 31 March 2024 when the route was significantly enhanced. The general trend in the area is to improve services. As of tonight there is no further change submitted to the Traffic Commissioners. If one was submitted in the next few weeks it is safe to assume it would be to further improve the service as there appears to be a real consensus of change in the area, and money from the cancellation of the HS2 rail line to make it happen.

Mickleton, Aston Subedge and Weston Subedge are off the escarpment and are a lot lower than Hidcote, Chipping Campden and Broadway.

The hills up onto the escarpment are properly steep. So steep that Fish Hill up to Broadway winds up the hill, nearly a double hairpin.

The hill and footpath up the hill from Mickleton to Hidcote is a very steep one. Actually the road is narrow, just wide enough for one vehicle, and does not have a seperate footpath, you will be walking in the road. And if I haven't made my point - it is very steep. Lots of pretty flowers and sheep nearby, but steep.
