Budget Accommodations in London

My husband and I will be in London approximately June 11-15. I would like to be centrally located to the major attractions - Westminster Abbey, British Museum, etc., etc. - and I'm looking at one of the small, budget hotels on Belgrave Road, the Victor Hotel. We are doing other things in Great Britain so I want to stretch the budget as much as possible (and we're not in London for the hotels, after all). The main thing that seems attractive is the location, but I am unfamiliar with London. The hotel is one of several on Belgrave, between Victoria and Pimlico stations, but somewhat closer to Pimlico. Does anyone know this area or the hotel? Any other suggestions in this price range - 100 USD per night, give or take. Also, I know this hotel doesn't have AC - will that be a problem in early June? Thank you for any insights you can provide!

Had a quick look on Google Earth. Looks like a nice area, on a bus route and close to tube stops and river. US$100 anywhere in central London is worth a second look. I personally wouldn't worry about A/C in London at any time but certainly not in early June.

Hello, we stay at the Westbury Hotel in South Kensington. They provide breakfast which we always
supplement from the local grocery store.

It is also close to laundry and exchange facilities.

We stayed at Cherry Court which is not far from here. ( 23 Hugh Street, ). It was our third stay because we love the location. While I did not walk down Belgrave as far as where your hotel is, I do think the location is excellent in terms of being able to walk to so much. The train station has a shopping area in it which is handy for picking up items (a good drug store, grocery, etc.) We also stopped in the train station and bought one day travelcards so that we could take advantage of the 2 for 1 offers. (It has to be a travel card bought at a train station) We used them at Kensington Palace, Churchill War Rooms, and the Tower of London. It saves us quite a bit of money. I would read the reviews on Trip Advisor before booking. We only sleep in our hotel room, so budget hotels are just fine with us as long as they are clean.

Thank you! I think we might go with the Victor. I'm amazed by the differences in rates, though. Is anyone familiar with booking through TravelStay? The quoted rate on the hotel website is 152 USD weekday, 171 USD weekend for our dates in June. The rate through TravelStay is 96 USD per night. It requires a deposit (slightly less than one night's stay, based on ), but you can cancel or modify up to 3 days before your reservation begins. I wonder if the TravelStay prices include the VAT? But we can phone and find that out.

Any hotel in central London that is only $100 in the middle of summer I would be suspect of. Unless you're sharing a bathroom or staying in a hostel. Just be sure to look at the reviews on Tripadvisor. Although you're not spending a lot of time in the hotel room, you also don't want to be staying in squalor. Enjoy though. London was awesome in March, and we're returning in December. I bet in June it's really amazing with the warm weather!!!

The Victor gets decent reviews on Tripadvisor, with the usual comment that the rooms are small. They show the room rate for weekdays in June at $126 on websites like Booking.com. That includes the VAT of $25, so maybe the other one is quoting without?

O.K., I figured it out - TravelStay quotes a rate without VAT, but when you get to the reservation page the VAT is added to the total stay. Will probably reserve through Booking.com.

We stayed at the Travel Lodge in Covent Garden in Sept. Nice area and easy to get around by tube from Heathrow and to all attractions. Lots to see around Covent Gardens. It was a bit noisy, but good price (often has sales) and our room was comfortable and clean. Couldn't ask for more in central London.

We stayed at the Premier Inn in Kensington (Earl's Court) in June of last year. It was 100 pounds a night - room was quite large. Breakfast in the hotel is extra. It's one block to the tube station. The room is air conditioned.

Thanks to everyone for your insights - we did book 4 days at the Victor Hotel through Hotels.com, no deposit required and free cancellations within 3 days.
