Buckingham Palace closed for the summer

This, of course, is no surprise; but I did get my official Buckingham Palace tour cancellation email today, along with the information that they would be closed for this summer and be refunding my ticket for the end of July. I was not surprised by the cancellation but was happily surprised by the refund, which I was not expecting (I had not asked). It will be processed back to my credit card at a later date, after people are back in offices, they said.

The only remaining item to unravel from my 5 week trip through Scotland, Wales, York, and London is a Loganair flight from Stornaway - Edinburgh. And it’s too early for that - they are offering refunds through May 31, so I have a while to wait. A voucher will be a secondary option, which isn’t bad (for me) since I still plan to go in 2021 if possible.

I had tickets for the royal apartment tour for September and just got the email that they were cancelling tours for the entire season. Its nice that they are doing this pro-actively and refunding everyone. I'm not giving up on my trip just yet - call me a crazy optimist but I'm still hoping I'm on the plane on September 16th!!!

I was supposed to leave for London for two weeks tomorrow!!! I went to Buckingham Palace and it was a wonderful visit. When you do get to London, do go, it is worth it. I am happy to hear they will refund you and not give you a voucher! That is good business.

I will be receiving a refund for my plane tkt ( thank goodness) from United for the full amount. The flight was not cancelled, but because they changed my flight from 8:30 AM to 8PM and I would arrive in London more than six hours late , their policy is to refund the tkt. Had I not told them this they would not have refunded my money!! How do I know this, because I called about two weeks ago and they said they would give me a voucher. I said, no, but dont cancel me out. I waited and last week received an email stating they changed my flight which I knew two weeks ago when I called United. I then called United, read the policy wording and am getting my money back!

I got my money back without calling St Martin in the Field church, they credited my credit card for a classical concert I was supposed go to.

I am supposed to receive a voucher for the musical Pretty woman, not happy about that.

I got a voucher for High Clere Castle that I booked with Brit Movie tours. Not happy about that but again what can you do and the terms and conditions state that if there is a Epidemic and Quarantine then you still don't get your money back.

I wrote to Travel Guard and requested my preimum for my insurance travel policy and received an email that they will review my request.

I have one more tour I was going on and need to find out if I will get my funds back. We shall see about that.

So I totally understand how you feel. I am just so happy to have gotten back the airfare which was a lot of money and the concert tkt but lost a few dollars on that due to the currency exchange rate, but I knew if I get refunds that would happen.

I hope to go to London when we get a vaccine and it is safe to travel.

nwnews2, yea, I was happy they were proactive about it. I wasn’t going to ask until much later, but I couldn’t imagine they would let tourists traipse all over the palace and grounds. :) I hope you get to make your trip in September!

Ann, I am sorry about your trip. Sounds like you had more already purchased than I did. I mainly had lodging and rental cars. My lodgings were all free cancellation and everyone was very kind with it. I had a week’s rental through AutoEurope and that was painless. Since I plan to be back, I was happy with a voucher for a car on Harris & Lewis.

Big Mike, LOL. Indeed.

Thank you Travelmom. I too had hotel reservations and was able to cancel them, I had not paid for the hotel room. My hotel is now closed but they send a very nice email to me. Hope we both are able to make it back to London. I am just happy that I was able to get back my plane tkt money and one concert tkt money.

British Airways announced it would be starting up non-stop flights from US SEattle to LHR on July 1st. I guess we'll see if that happens. I'm still crossing my fingers for September 16th. This is the last thing I thought would happen when I bought my tickets in December!!!!
