Broadband Hotspot in England

Hi,

My family is considering spending several weeks in UK next summer and given PTO policy in the US we were thinking of interspersing some work days amid the vacation days. This would require internet connections to facilitate Teams/Zoom and I was thinking about renting a hotspot to ensure some regular access/speeds. Has anyone had any experience doing that in the UK? If so, how was the price, speeds, coverage, etc? Are there companies you'd recommend OR not recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks. That is appreciated. Fair points all. The visa would be an issue. Change of plans I think.

I don't understand the acronym either. If you want to be on a Zoom or a Teams link I think that is permitted.

I'd have thought that many hotels provide plenty of wifi for Zooms. I don't use Teams except for meetings with my doctor so I haven't used it in hotels. I have participated in many meetings on Zoom from hotels (even my phone or iPad from the grounds which you would be doing with the hotspot) and never had a problem with the hotel wifi. You can always use a VPN for privacy, although Zooms are also encrypted.

What I'm asking, is paying for a hotspot overkill?

I think PTO is "paid time off," i.e., vacation time.

Get a sim card locally will do the job. Simcards are readily available at off license stores, bookstores or supermarkets.

If you bring along a 5g device, the 5g network around London is decent.
Mvno like Lebara, Giffgaff and lyca also support 5g.

You may wish to check the connection of your address.

Where in UK will you be based? Connections in rural areas tend to be a problem.

I have a mobile phone with Google Project Fi, the phones switch networks so they work nearly everywhere, unlimited data, texts and service for $23/month. When I went to London last time it worked perfectly within just a few minutes. I can create a hotspot with it and use unlimited data easily. Even runs the phone program that my university uses when I work, sound was fine.
Unfortunately my university doesn't let me work out of the country, but it's great that yours does. :)
