Has anyone gotten resolution to a declined credit card payment from ACPRail (BritRail's US vendor) or its payment service, World Pay?
We will be spending 10 days in England and Scotland, hoping to have four travel days by rail, which makes BritRail Pass an affordable option. However, multiple attempts at online purchasing over the past few days has given us no resolution through ACPRail. They reply promptly to emails but their response continues to be "rejected by bank." We have checked both banks (we tried 2 credit cards) and neither had a record of the attempted purchase.
Our only option now seems to be purchasing Point to Point tickets.
Have you tried a different browser? I've had issues in the past with multiple credit cards getting rejected, and sometimes if I switch to a different browser, I can make it work. Usually I have the problem with Chrome, so I switch to Firefox or Safari.
If that doesn't work, I would try to clear your cache on the browser as that can cause problems like what you are describing.
And lastly, I'm assuming your credit cards are MasterCard or Visa and not AMEX, which sometimes is not accepted.
Thank you, Mardee. We'll try your suggestions. Yes, these were Visa and MC that we tried.
because it is a foreign purchase - you may need to warn the bank that there will be a purchase from the UK. Do you have your phone or laptop set up for 2 factor authentication?
Have you done the sums comparing the cost of a BritRail pass against buying 4 tickets? It may well be that the latter will be cheaper anyway. This will be particularly true if you are able and willing to fix the times of your trains and therefore take advantage of much cheaper tickets called Advance. You may also be able to use a railcard to further reduce costs.
If you can tell us the make up of your party and rough ages - under 30 or over 60 and ages of any children, plus the routes you are planning we can offer advice.
It does depend on the exact trips but advance fares with a travel card might be more value than the Britrail - I have read of people having issues due to browsers and cookies, so might be worth looking at those
Thank you all for your suggestions. We gave up on the BritRail pass and chose the Two Together Railcard. It's downloaded on my phone and we have purchased our first Advance tickets. This will save us the cost of the Railcard and much more!! We are excited about traveling by rail in the UK!
We're doing the same. While it takes more planning, using the Two Together Rail Pass will save us money in the long run. We would have like to have tried the Britrail pass option, but we couldn't get past the "Failed Purchase" message of ACP Rail after multiple attempts. ACP Rail needs to work on their website.
The reality is that purchasing advance tickets with a railcard is more than likely to be cheaper than a BritRail pass. There are some astounding bargains out there, widely available.
Especially if you avoid the expensive operators like Cross Country.
In the next 10 days I have got Ramsgate (on the south coast) to the Lake District (almost on the Scottish Border) booked for £36 and Oxford to the Lake District for £14 (starting from Reading for £19 all in).
I too had a problem with ACP Rail's payment system even after informing both banks who sponsor the cards of the purchase I wanted to make. After a frustrating Email "goround" with them...what kind of a business doesn't have a phone number to call when problems occur?? I instead went through International Rail in the UK and within 20 minutes had my BritRail passes paid for (using one of the cards declined by ACP Rail) and they were sent DHL and received by me 5 days later.
I used ACP Rail in the past, never again!
That is very useful information- this is their website- https://www.internationalrail.com/
It is also useful for us in the UK advising you as we can see the prices- which we can't on ACP Rail.
