Britrail Pass: London or England?

Hoping someone can help -

I am thinking of getting just the London Britrail pass, as I plan to go mostly to where that allows (Cambridge, Ely, Gatwick, etc).
However, I also want to visit Stamford, Peterborough and Norwich (Possibly). They are not included.

How do I get a ticket if I'm going from say Gatwick to Stamford, and most of the trip would be covered, but the last leg not....

Also, I assume with the pass, I can leave at any time, and not just off-peak?

Thanks so much!

There are no time-of-day restrictions with either pass. If you were traveling from Gatwick to Stamford with the London Plus pass, you'd need to buy a ticket from the last point covered on the route of your particular train departure, usually from Huntingdon or Bedford to Stamford (£25 Off-Peak). A ticket agent at Gatwick could sell you this at the same time they activate your pass (or possible online).

Would the additional coverage of the England pass mean that you also need to buy more travel days, or that you'd be more likely to use up the travel days available on the pass? Either pass comes with an extra travel day included (e.g. 5 days instead of 4) if you purchase before July 29.

I haven't done a price comparison versus buying all tickets as you go but if you planned to buy a regular, Off-Peak ticket from Gatwick Airport to Stamford upon arrival, you'd plan to pay £70.40, according to www.nationalrail.co.uk.

With the London Plus you are covered to Huntingdon. An anytime single Huntingdon to Peterborough is only £6.10. An anytime single from Peterborough to Stamford is only £8.55. An off peak single Peterborough to Stamford is £25.15. So splitting the ticket at Peterborough will save you £10.50. There are esoteric old rules which cause this to happen, mostly to do with old British Rail and British Railways regions but do be sure to take advantage of them.

Where will you be based?

Be aware that despite the name Britrail-London Plus, this does not cover you within London for using TfL (Transport for London) services, just National Rail services, so the underground, the red buses and Docklands Light Railway (DLR) will require a separate payment method, usually an Oystercard/contactless bank card/phonepay Apple/Android.

If your longer train journey is via London, transferring between stations, the National Rail ticket includes one journey across London by underground/DLR if required.

Thx! I’m still figuring things out, generally:
Gatwick to Stamford
Stamford To Peterbourgh and back to Stamford
Stamford to Cambridge
Cambridge to bury st Edmunds and back
Cambridge to Norwich and back
Back to London
