I was about to make reservations on the BritRail website for Paddington to Bath Spa. I noticed that there is a separate ticket for booked Great Western Railway services. Are there 2 different rail lines along that route? I checked the GWR website for times/prices to Bath Spa and they are the same which made me wonder if I was dealing with 2 entirely different companies or 1 company with 2 names. If there are 2, is my ticket good on either?

Britrail are a foreign 3rd party company that sell railway passes, you should use the National Rail website for train information, it will also direct you to the correct train operating company to book tickets.

As stated, Britrail is a company that sells rail passes. Don't use them for train reservations unless you have a Britrail pass.
Great Western is the train company operating the train.
Buy the ticket from Great Western.
