British TV programmes on You Tube.

I see that from time to time some of you give tip offs about British TV programmes coming up on PBS America. You seem to not be aware that you can also find some British TV programmes on You Tube - which you can watch for free outside of the UK. If you have a You Tube app on your TV, you can type in the search to find programmes or just use your computer and Google You Tube and the programme name. (Note that some are shortened versions - so look for full length programmes).

These programmes may appeal / or not. Feel free to suggest more if you happen to find them.

The Pyrenees with Michael Portillo. (series).
Portillos Andalucia (series of 5 programmes).
Escape to the Country - people looking for property in the British countryside.
A Place in the Sun - People looking for property - usually in the Med.
Digging for Britain - Dr Alice Roberts. (archaeology).
Hotel Inspector.
Four in a Bed - small time B&B owners rank each others establishments.

If you want actual news, Channel 4 News can be found on youtube. While they don't stream live, they publish a lot.

I think BBC News is the one thing that's free to watch live worldwide on iPlayer. I still rate the BBC as a fairly unbiased source of news. The coverage of worldwide news is better than most US networks I think. They receive criticism from both ends of the political spectrum at times, so that can only be a good thing.

BBC Radio might be something you'd enjoy if you want to get a flavour of the UK. I think there may be some access internationally?

Radio 1 is young people pop.
Radio 2 is ahem... mature people pop and rock.
Radio 3 is classical.
Radio 4 is general music and entertainment with a varied schedule.
Radio 5Live is rolling news and sports with commentary.
6Music is an eclectic music mix.

The BBC Sounds app might be worth installing in the US to see what you can access. I've been listening to the "Up All Night" show on 5Live for 20+ years as a night owl. It's a good international news and features show at a relaxed pace that may suit US time zones if you can hear it.

I had never heard of Acorn TV until now. From what I read, I think there's a lot of content that would be available elsewhere in the UK. You'd still be able to use it in the UK if you have a subscription in the US.

Richard Osman's House of Games is on YouTube. It's a fun show to play along with.

QI can also be found on YouTube, although you can find many season on BritBox if you have that. I love watching those shows, and usually am laughing myself silly by the end of them. :-) Although be careful where you watch it. My 10 year old granddaughter once walked in while I had it on, and said, "Oma, did you know they're talking about penises?"

It is. There is also a great app called myTuner Radio - it gives you access to multiple UK and European stations, not only national but also regional. I use it quite often to stay up to date on UK news

BBC can be stingy with what you can watch online (they do a newcast each day for PBS), but Skynews has an app that I've installed on my Roku and tablets and you can watch their live news feed at any time. They have an interesting feature where they gather up all the national newspapers each morning and discuss the headlines. At the top of each other they are apparently running commercials in the UK so they run a global weather cast for several minutes, interesting to see how temperatures compare.

You can also usually watch France 24 and DW News on the internets, FWIW.
