British Airways: Anyone else having trouble booking and managing their flights from the US?

Our return flight has been cancelled and we went to the BA site to chose another, as prompted in the email received. Entered all our info for managing and then chose a different flight. Once selected, it takes us to the finalizing the changes stage, but then gives is a 'sorry, something went wrong' message and will not allow us to make any changes. In order to speak to someone, we tried to call but it puts us on hold for indefinite time while we are paying $.25 per minute. We hung up after a few minutes as there was no end in sight. Is there a different way to do this? HELP!!

Is there a US number that won't charge international call rates?

Those flight cancellations by the airline always come with the option of full refund; if possible take that option and start your search over with another airline that has a flight schedule similar to what you originally wanted that BA is unable to fill; that is what I had to do and it all ended well.

Are you already in Europe? IF you're flying Business Class use the number on the back of your One World card; they actually answer that one.
We left for Europe a few weeks ago, and our outgoing flight had significant delays because the pilot tested positive for covid. Our return flight was very smooth and right on time.
Good luck in these crazy times!

Yes, they just cxld my return flight from LHR to LAX in late September! Was able to rebook online but have never gotten the email they said they sent to confirm. Luckily the flight shows on my account. I call a toll free number on my BA VISA but I know from past experience that if you are on hold past one hour, the call drops and you have to start again. On the last call I made to them some months ago, the agent said it was his last day and he was going to work in a pub since he’d make more money there. Good luck! I hope you can get the website to work for you. If you do cancel and get a voucher, it’s worse because you have to call, you can’t use the voucher online.

This is probably along the lines of "have you tried unplugging it and then plugging it back in" but you could try using a different browser or the BA app.

BA Customer Service - 1 (800) 247-9297 ... I see you are in Aiken, are you flying out/in from Charlotte (CLT)? ... if so, you are probably on a BA codeshare with American, flying on AA metal ... if no luck with BA, maybe try calling AA? ... hope you can get this sorted out quickly.

It is nearly impossible to get through to BA on the phone, unless you have high status like Gold as an Executive Club member. I spent hours and hours on hold, many times having the call dropped at the one-hour mark, before I finally got lucky.

Sometimes the website is just glitchy. Try again on the website, but if that doesn’t work, I suggest you get the experts at FlyerTalk to offer their advice. Here is the link to their British Airways forum:

Be cautious about the refund option suggested above—-I believe you must call BA to get an actual refund. The website option for. Cancelled flight is only a voucher for future travel, not an actual refund. And then you have to call to use that to book a new flight, so you are no better off.

Thanks for all your responses. We are flying from MCI with layover at DFW to LHR. That flight to LHR is fine, and the domestic partner airline is AA.

The return is 18 days later, and that is the one that has been cancelled (LHR to DFW). What happens if we just show up at the airport and speak with the representative to schedule an alternate flight after we arrive on our trip there? Is there a window where we have to correct this before we leave? I have tried multiple times on different devices to find another flight home via their website. When I called the US number provided above (thanks!) the phone number hangs disconnects before anyone answers. I may try again in the middle of the night, British time. Very frustrating.

I appreciate your feedback! Based on these issues, I doubt I would choose to fly BA again. What a frustrating fiasco.

I received the email yesterday that my BA flight from Dulles to Heathrow on June 23 was cancelled. I went through the BA app and rebooked my outbound flight, however it departs from BWI instead of Dulles. It said I would get an email about the update, but I have not. The app shows the new outbound flight as well as the cancelled one. I have gotten a few messages on the app saying they are having tech issues. Fingers crossed it worked. I tried calling and you can guess how well that worked. Good luck!! I hope it all works out for you!!

*I paid for seat selection, but when I try to choose a seat on the new flight it wants me to pay. I thought that was supposed to transfer to the new flight.

AA has 4 daily nonstops (all 777-300ERs, their biggest planes), 2 before and 2 after your BA flight ... surprised BA didn't rebook you on one of those since they are a partner airline ... maybe try calling AA, can't hurt, all they can say is you have to rebook through BA ... you can wait until you get there and do it in person but you run the risk of full flights, higher ticket prices, no seats together or worse, the dungeon (that's what I call the last row in front of the bathrooms ... the seats don't recline, it always seems dark and cold, and the air can be quite aromatic) ... not to mention wasting previous vacation time ... there is no window where you have to fix the issue, but the longer you wait the greater the risk I mentioned above ... good luck

One other possibility - if you have wifi calling, sometimes you may have better luck with the German BA line. I believe if you dig through the FlyerTalk forum linked above, you'll see mention of that. Alternatively, as others have suggested - you might try to choose your flight via a different browser. Unfortunately, BA IT does not exactly have a stellar reputation at the moment.

We used to fly BA exclusively, but with all the cancellations we have been reading about we chose another airline for our latest trip. Have you been able to work it out?
