Now!

It’s a flextension, so the end of January is the latest date, but it can be before this date if agreement is reached.

but it can be before this date if agreement is reached.

and, based on experience so far, the chances of reaching an agreement are . . . (comments about snowballs and hades welcome).

I've said it will never happen and I keep saying it. They will never leave Europe.

As my friends out west say, "It has two chances of passing: Slim and None. Slim just left town."

"They will never leave Europe."

Europe and EU are not synonyms!

Geology, means that Britain is certainly stuck next to Europe for more than a few millennia. However, leaving Europe isn't the plan. It's leaving the EU that sensible Britons want. That could certainly still happen - perhaps early next year, definitely eventually.

You know what he meant...it's a figure of speech.

Not really. Whilst the British Isles have never really considered themselves as being part of Europe despite being geographically so it is important to differentiate Europe and the EU. Anyone would consider Norway and Switzerland as being part of continental Europe but they're not in the EU, likewise some of the eastern and south eastern countries. Europe and the EU are not interchangeable figures of speech.

As said it's not, the EU and Europe are two different things.

" It's leaving the EU that sensible Britons want"

Without wishing to stray into Politics - I disagree. It's what 52% of Britons wanted 3 years ago. Sensibility or otherwise was not asked and is very subjective.

It is what 52 percent of those who actually voted thought they wanted at the time, disregarding the large proportion of actual voters who didn't want it but who wanted to give one in the eye to the government.

Nigel, personally, I agree.
I was merely pointing out that Nick's statement could be interpreted as political. "You are only sensible if you want X" so by implication people who do not want X are not sensible.

Brexit is the most toxic, divisive political debate I've ever encountered. I'd rather not see the arguments carried over to this forum other than as travel related information: e.g. "Large demo planned for Saturday x/x/2019 in Trafalgar square."

Hi,

Along the line of TimW's post, let's loop the conversation back to how it affects travel. Otherwise, someone invariably gets offended or defensive on this topic and we end up removing it due to "politics." I'm sure this news is relevant for travelers, so I'd like it to remain if possible. Thank you!

Aren’t there Die in a Ditch Day commemorations being held all across the UK tomorrow? Those could really hold up traffic.

Brexit and the tourist

1- GBP may go up, making everything more expensive....... or maybe not

2- Interacting with the locals will be more challenging as many will have gone off their rocker enduring the seemingly endless process and will be speaking incomprehensibly. ( good thing about Brexit freeing millions( billions?) to direct to the health system.)

3-tourists going to/through the UK will likely have little change, compared to what will happen with freight to/from UK

4-who knows what the unknowns are.
