At the end of a trip in June we will probably be staying 3 nights within a block or two of Paddington train station. The hotel I'm considering offers a hot breakfast add-on to the room rate, but it seems pricey at $25 especially since we don't normally have a big breakfast every day. Perhaps that's actually quite reasonable. There's a convenience factor to eating at the hotel, but I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for cafes or restaurants within 2-3 blocks of Paddington where we could find a variety of breakfast choices. Thank you!
There are numerous Costa Coffees and Starbucks around that sell muffins and breakfast sandwiches. Pret A Manger also has breakfast items.
Walk into Hyde Park via Lancaster Gate and walk along the path adjacent to the Serpentine to the Lido Cafe. Check opening times on line.
Or head to Shelia’s cafe which is across the road from the Mitre Paddington pub. There’s also La Costa Cafe on Craven road.
Haven’t been to any of these places since 2019 so unsure if they survived the Covid lockdown. Have eaten at all 3. All were fine.
The Serpentine Lido mentioned by Claudia above is in a very scenic area. The Royal Parks (Hyde Park is one) have a website for them - https://www.royalparks.org.uk/parks/hyde-park/food-and-drink/lido-bar-and-cafe Note that the terrace doesn't open until later in the year. I remember quite a lot of water birds around...
For £12 for a Full English and £3 for a coffee you could get away for less than your hotel. All in what appeals to you. Maybe the weather would play a part.
Last time we were in London we faced the same problem. We took breakfast on a near by Costa Coffee: tea and porridge for me, coffee and youghurt for my wife. Much cheeper than what the hotel could offer.
i would try the nearest Wetherspoons pub
Thank you for all the suggestions.
