Hello!
Looking for a good breakfast place in London. It would be on a weekday and needs to be open by 9am. The ability to make reservations would also be a plus, since we would have an appointment at noon. We are staying in Kensington and would be doing the underground tour at Moorgate station at noon. We are pretty simple breakfast people - my husband expressed interest in the English breakfast. I wouldn't mind something sweet in addition, like French toast, etc. Where are the best breakfast places to check out?
The description ‘Kensington’ covers a very wide area of the city, can you be more specific where you are staying?
Are you interested in a more traditional ‘greasy spoon’cafe or something posher?
Any place serving breakfast mid week in London is likely to be open before 9am.
I'm just looking for recommendations for good breakfast places in general. The place we are staying is near Holland Park, but we wouldn't mind going somewhere that is between there and the Moorgate station or near the Moorgate station, we just don't want to go too far in a different direction. I understand that is a big area, but really, we will have all morning. I have researched a few places but wanted to get more ideas. A few on my list were: Caravan Covent Garden, E,. Pellicci, Duck and Waffle. It definitely doesn't have to be posh, just good food. Hope this helps!
I really like Dishoom (breakfast with Indian flavors) but you mention that you like a simple breakfast so that may not be your style. Their bacon and egg naan with tomato-chilli jam and a cup of chai is what I generally get. Their Kensington location would be closest to Holland Park.
Granger and Co. supposedly has a good breakfast but I have never been. They have multiple locations.
Granger and Co. in Notting Hill came up in another thread the other day.
The Regency Cafe in Pimlico was one I also mentioned in that thread.

My local is Mess Cafe in Hackney, but that's far too far from Kensington for you. You'd be starving by the time you got there!

It's a few years since I've been to E. Pellicci, but it is a good bet. Again, a little bit of trek from Kensington if you're hungry.
I’m a bit bewildered by your need for somewhere to be open by 9am if your next appointment is 12 at Moorgate. How long are you thinking breakfast will take?
E. Pellicci is more viable if you're then going on to Moorgate actually. Be prepared for busy trains if you're going cross town before 9am though.
edit: John is quite correct. Pre- 9am is quite a long time before midday if getting breakfast and getting to Moorgate is all that is on the agenda. I've never heard of anywhere that takes reservations for breakfast.
Which station are you closer to in Holland Park?
Holland Park or Kensington Olympia?
My go to place for a traditional English breakfast is the River Cafe across the street from the Putney Bridge Train station. Believe it opens at 6am.
Depending where you are staying in the Holland Park neighborhood it would be a two bus ride to the Putney Bridge station. Or if close enough to Shepard Bush Station a 25 minute bus ride to Putney Bridge Station.
They don’t have a website but Google them and you can see photos and the menu.
Been going here for a full English breakfast for years. Its always a good meet up spot for my English friends and I. Often we then enjoy walking on the Thames path. You walk right by Fulham Palace. I also adore rummaging around the adjacent HurlingHam Books.
Great city. Enjoy your visit.
One place that is right in the middle between Kensington and the Moorgate station is Bill's, the Victoria location. I ate there, and they had really good breakfasts. I was really impressed and wouldn't hesitate to go back there. They have other locations as well, so you may want to look for one that's in a different place or more conducive to your destination. https://bills-website.co.uk/restaurants/victoria/
I've never heard of anywhere that takes reservations for breakfast.
Dishooms takes reservations for breakfast and lunch, just not dinner. I do like Dishoom's breakfast. They are very good, but it's not a typical English breakfast.

Ah yes I doubted myself and Googled Dishoom after I wrote that. Dishoom has never really appealed to me but it's a popular choice that's something a bit different.
Thank you everyone for the ideas! I don't really need to be at breakfast at 9am, but I did find a few places that didn't open until 11am and that would definitely be too late, especially if we had transportation time in there to worry about. And I don't need reservations, but I also don't want to be waiting in line for an hour - this is what I saw about E. Pellicci. I guess it is a small place and popular!
Again, thanks and I will check into all suggestions!
One of my favorite places to get breakfast in London is at the Serpentine Lido cafe in Hyde Park.
Go to Pret or Joe and the Juice or Costa like the rest of us, save your schekels. Or Starbucks if you'd rather.
