Borough Market- y or n

Having to get tickets early is making me detail a day’s itinerary more than I normally would. Planning on seeing the superbloom at the Tower and going to the Tate Modern before dinner. To fill in the time between the Tate and the flowers, I was thinking about the Sky Garden and Borough Market, but fitting both in with transit times is a little tight. I don’t mind keeping busy but don’t want to rush between sites too much since there’s so much to see just walking around. Thoughts on the value of Borough Market, beyond a place to get lunch? I thought it’d be a fun thing to see but if it’s really just a crowded foot hall, then it can wait.

Edited to add this is a weekday in June and after the jubilee events.

It’s a crowded food hall. I enjoyed it but i wouldn’t put it high on the list.

Was there yesterday, it’s a fun walk through but don’t go out of your way to see it. It’s close to Tate Modern, though.

what time, which day? The beginning of the week will be only partially open, lunch times busiest.

It isn't a food hall but it is an open market with trains overhead instead of a roof.

It’s too busy at the weekends. I wouldn’t go out of the way to see it - it’s just an upmarket (expensive) market! Go if you are nearby, but it’s not worth a special journey. I prefer the food offer at Camden Market.

If you walk across London bridge to get from the Sky Garden to Tate Modern, you will be super close to the market, so you might as well pass through.

I liked Skygarden’s views over London and especially its birds-eye view onto the Tower. It’s been a few years since I was there though, so I don’t know how the ticketing (free but required) currently works.

I love Borough Market. As an added bonus, Southwark Cathedral is nearby and worth a visit.

It really isn't anything special, it's a food market that offers expensive food, some of it mediocre and surrounded by many bricks and mortar restaurants and pubs. It's interesting from a historical viewpoint due to how long it's been operating but if I was going to choose somewhere to eat and shop it wouldn't be there.

Thanks, All. I think I’ll put the market on the list of things to do only if there is time or save it for another trip.
