Booked Hilton Olympia Hotel Kensington for August

I have a small group going on a Cruise out of Dover around the British Isles this August and booked into the Hilton Olympia Kensington. At first the rate was going to be $835 but I did a Best Rate Guarantee and got the Double Room for $530 $106 per night with Breakfast for two and I can add the additional person for $20 per day. Its not too far from Kensington and close to Holland Park. 1 mile walk to the old Vicarage Gate Hotel where we stayed eons ago.

I am very pleased with the rate as other Rick Steve's Hotels were going for $140. I do not mind the eight minute walk to Holland Park and riding the Tube to the sights or the Hop on Hop Off Bus.

Now don't get me wrong I love small hotels but when Hilton has a good rate with my Gold Status I'll take them up on their offer. They even have a Costa Coffee there as well.

What are your thoughts on this Hotel? The rooms and hotel has been renovated and its right on High Street Kensington. AirBnBs were going for way more and located in Westbourne Park a not so safe area.

Wouldn’t have chosen it based on TripAdvisor reviews. I’ve walked by it more than once. Hopefully it improved with the overhaul. Then again I’ve never liked Hiltons anywhere.

I know the location well but I've never stayed at the hotel.

The closest tube station, Kensington Olympia, only operates on weekends and some holidays. And on some weekends, like this one, it's closed for track and signal work. The next closest tube station is about a 15 minute walk. (High Street Kensington or Earls Court.)

I agree that you received a good rate. There is nothing “wrong” with staying at a Hilton or any other chain hotel. Each of us has our own travel preferences and no need for everyone to like the same thing. It sounds like a great trip ahead. Which cruise line are you on?
