Blue Islands Airways bankrupt

Last night Blue Islands Airways ceased trading. They primarily operated flights to the UK Channel Islands- Jersey and Guernsey etc.

This follows hot on the heels of the failures of Play Airlines and Eastern Airways (another UK airline).

This may also affect the resumption of the Gatwick to Newquay route as Isles of Scilly skybus were to wet lease the aircraft for that route from Blue Islands.

Aurigny and Loganair are providing "rescue" flights for some of the passengers stranded by Blue Islands collapse. (note--they won't be free but will be discounted.)

Loganair recently set up a mini-hub at Southampton looking to increase flights in the south of the UK. They have also stated they may take over some of Blue Islands routes.

Don't count the Gatwick-Newquay route out just yet.

Skybus started flying a Twin Otter for Aurigny Airlines between Guernsey, Alderly and Southampton earlier this month. Aurigny currently flies its own Dornier 288's on those routes which will be phased out early next year.

Skybus supplies crews, maintenance and training to Aurigny for the Twin Otter.

Since they already have this type of agreement with Aurigny, they might reverse it and have Aurigny supply a larger plane for the Gatwick--Newquay route.Something they were going to do next year anyway.
