We are planning our trip to England for this August, and am not sure we will have time to visit both Blists Hill Victorian Town and the Beamish Museum. I know from their description that they are not identical, but would appreciate anyone's feedback on visiting these two places. We both like history, and enjoy going through "towns" or "villages" that show what life was like in years past, especially old tools and machines. If we can only visit one, which would you recommend?
Do you mean Blists Hill Victorian Town? If yes, we have visited both of them and liked them both a lot. Blists Hill was the first recreated village we ever visited in the UK and we were totally taken by it. The next year we went to Beamish and liked that a lot too. Since It's been a number of years since we've been to either I can't compare them. I just know that they are both worth a visit. You can't go wrong with either one.
Yes, I did mean Blists Hill Victorian Town. I will correct that on the title and question. Thanks for the correction. Also, thank you for your comments.
Beamish was really the trailblazer for this kind of museum, but there is a considerable overlap in the type of content with Blists Hill, and for that matter the Black Country Living Museum, or stretching the point just a little the National Tramway Museum at Crich. If you only have time for one, I'd try looking through the contents of each to see if there is something in one that is of particular interest, otherwise pick the one that fits in best with the rest of your trip. With Blists Hill for example it is only one of the ten associated museums in the Ironbridge area..
Marco, thanks for sharing information on the Black Country Open Air Museum. We love these open air villages and had never heard of this one. Looked it up, and it seems to be a very good one. Have to take that in on our next trip there.
I agree that you'll enjoy either one (or both) and would decide based on time and proximity to your route.
