BinaxNOW proctored test for UK entry

I’ve read through the updates requirements for the pre-departure Covid test requirement. They detail out the timeline and what type of test and the test specifications (specificity and sensitivity). They don’t specifically say anything about at home proctored tests.

We are planning on using the BinaxNOW at home test that is proctored through Emed. From all that I’ve read, the test itself meets the requirements of the new pre-departure test. This is the same exact test we are planning to use for the pre-departure test for re-entry into the US.

Should I reconsider using this test? Thoughts?

With regulations constantly changing the safest thing to do is get a PCR test. It is the one test that is universally accepted.

While I am confident that this test currently works for re-entry into the United States, I am not confident that it works for entry into the UK. The UK govt website does show that they accept pre-entry antigen tests for fully vaccinated individuals. I do know that your day two test in the UK must be a PCR test and you must make arrangements for this prior to departure so that you can fill in the information on your passenger locator form.

I'd love to hear back from anyone who has used the Binax Now test for entry into the UK successfully so we would know.

Yes, we have our Day 2 PCR test already scheduled for when we arrive in London.

Our obstacle for doing a PCR test for the pre-departure requirement is the availability and turn around time. We left out at 8pm on Tuesday 12/14 so we have Sun/Mon/Tue to test. Obviously testing on Sunday would give more turn around time. There’s just not many options for quick turn around PCR testing around here.

I'm seeing some PCR tests available in Everett and some at UW/Shoreline as the closest to Arlington. I'm not sure about the turn around times. I am sure an onsite antigen test would be accepted as well.

PCR tests are not at-home tests. They require a laboratory. That's why they take so long.

Carol now retired - Walgreens in Lake Stevens has PCR testing available on Sunday but I’m concerned about the turn around time. They also offer a rapid antigen test and use the BinaxNOW test for their rapid antigen test with results within an hour.

I am hearing you can test positive for covid for 3 months after recovery. You can get a letter from your doctor stating you are recovered but what about the new 24 hour requirement?🤯

I will be flying into the UK on Friday and using the BinazNOW test. United has assured me it will be accepted and from what I understand they are the ones checking before you board. I can keep you updated.

nicolatwig - that's good news. If you don't mind please let us know how that goes. I was going to call AA today and see what they say.

Update… we went to Walgreens for a rapid antigen test instead of using the proctored BinaxNOW tests. We had the results in our email within 30 minutes. We flew SEA-LHR and arrived earlier today around 1pm. We booked through Randox Health for our 2 day PCR test at their Kensington location. Arrived an hour earlier than our appointments and didn’t have any issues. Now just waiting for results. Pretty strait forward once you decipher all the requirements.
