Bikers Celebrate "Dave Day" in Honour of Hairy Bikers Star

I think we have some fans of British TV on here and someone who's sadly missed is the recently departed Dave Myers.

You might like to see this article from today's Guardian about the turn out to remember someone who was well loved on TV.

I always thought The Hairy Bikers shows had a refreshing down to earth honesty about them, even though they're TV. You could always tell there was a genuine warm relationship between Dave and Si. Gone too soon.

This is a really big thing for Barrow, the town was as proud of Dave Myers as he was of the town.
I should have been going to Barrow today, for other reasons but can't due to rail engineering work.

There was good coverage of the bike ride this morning on the BBC news.

My wife and I had the privilege of being in the front row of the Royal Geographical Society at an intimate "An Audience with the Hairy Bikers" in February 2020 - our last evening in London and last meal out before Covid and its lockdowns.

To be so up close with both Si and Dave was an experience we would never had expected - it was a gift. They were both completely relaxed and shared a lot of their early and more recent lives. We had a great time.

So sad to see Dave get sick so soon after and then to lose him this year was a shock after his return to his beloved bike and best mate on TV again.

Sad.

RIP, Dave.

BBC News are saying that as many as 20,000 bikes took part.

The population of Barrow is only about 56,000 people so this is a huge influx into a town which has very limited accommodation options.

It would be nice to thick that a long term legacy might be to attract at least a few more tourists from the Lake District to this much neglected part of the county and in particular to discover some of the great local food producers.

RIP Dave. I have spent many happy hours watching the show.

And now I am off to add Barrow to my ever-growing list of places to visit in the UK....
