Hello! I am hoping to find out what would be a good way for us to get to the Royal Observatory in Greenwich? We have Oyster cards, and on the day we plan to go we will be staying near Kings Cross/St. Pancras. Thank you so much. Linda
DLR to Cutty Sark station, then walk up the hill to the Observatory. Interesting contrasts of the old East end and modern Canary Wharf area.
From Kings Cross tube you will need to take the Northern line to Bank, then change to DLR. The DLR doesn't have barriers like the tube, but you still have to tap out (look for the machines), or you will be charged maximum fare.
Thank you so much! That's perfect. My brain is reaching capacity on trip planning while undergoing a major home remodel at the same time. So you just saved me a lot time.
We really enjoyed going out from London on a river boat and then taking the train back. It was enjoyable to see the city from the River.
We used our oyster cards and took the water taxis. It was great fun!
We took the boat downstream from the Westminster pier to Greenwich, walked to and from the Observatory, returned via the foot tunnel then returned via the DLR station near the tunnel exit.
I've also taken the water route down to Greenwich and the DLR back. Enjoyed it a lot, and will do it again if I have the chance.
Thanks everyone. All great ideas! I appreciate all the suggestions.
The other alternative, which is a less strenuous walk to the Observatory as I recall, is to get the train from London Bridge to Maze Hill station (take the Northern from Kings Cross to London Bridge). Oysters are accepted.
