I am looking for a relatively easy and inexpensive way to get to gatwick for an early morning flight. . . like need to be there by 530 early. I know about the Gatwick express from Vic station, but that is pricey for 6 people. Has anyone stayed out by the airport in Crawley or Horley? If we took the train down, is the station convienant to the hotels for the airport? Or is there another way down from London that is a bit more budget friendly?
thanks for all your help!!
Have you checked the prices for Just Airports, london-transfers.com, or other transfer companies? I suspect you'll find that cheaper than Gatwick Express for 6 people.
HA! I googled the question and first capital connect can get my family to gatwick from st pancras for a total of 16 pounds!
You could stay in Croydon and take the train from Croydon down to Gatwick early in the morning. There's a 5:06 train that gets in to Gatwick at 5:25 and costs £4.50 a ticket. The Croydon central Travelodge is walkable from the station and is currently advertising rooms from £33 a night. There's also a Travelodge in Crawley and a 5:29 train departure from Crawley that would put you at Gatwick by 5:39 for £3.20 each. Both of those train routes can be booked on southernrailway.com
Good for you, Megan!
The normal commuter train is about £10,against the near £20 for the express.
With a rail pass you should get a further 1/3off, if you are doing more than that single trip worth looking at.
National Express bus ,from Victoria is about £8
