My traveling partner and I arrive late into LHR and are looking for the quickest and safest way to get to our hotel near Kings Cross Station. Does London have an Uber or Lyft type of service? We're going to be exhausted--having flown all night from the States. Suggestions? TIA
My preference would be to just take the Underground. The Piccadilly Line from all the terminals goes directly to Kings Cross, the Tube is perfectly safe, getting on at LHR you get your pick of seats.
Uber or Taxi cost will vary with traffic, but expect at least $80 USD, probably closer to $100, and probably not much quicker than the Underground, but, would take you directly to your hotel.
Thank you!
How late and what day of week are you arriving at Heathrow? That may make a difference.
As Paul said, the Piccadilly Line would be the easiest and quickest and cheapest. In 2023 we arrived Heathrow at 10pm on a Friday and we're checking into our hotel near St Pancras/Kings Cross about 11:30pm. There were lots of people out and about at that time.
You could also prebook a car service if you don't want to take public transportation.
Two companies recommended on this forum are Blackberry Cars and Just Airports.
Personally, I take the Piccadilly Line.
day of the week and how late is late will both help answer.
How close is your hotel to Kings Cross?
If you've flown all night and then all day to arrive late at London, are you coming from Hawaii?

Ideally, you will be a little bit groggy and jet lagged, rather than fully exhaused. Read what Rick has to say about beating jet lag at https://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/health/jet-lag.
Also, if you are going direclty to your hotel in the morning expecting to check-in, you will have had to pre-book an early check-in or have reserved the prior night.
Arriving at 9:00 p.m. Friday night; hotel is near the Kings Cross Station. It sounds like the Piccadilly line is the way to go. Thanks. And coming from Alaska. :)
Yeah, it is really easy, just follow the signs for the Underground. You can each use a credit card or phone/watch to tap in, then tap out at Kings Cross, you get the best rate, no need to fumble with tickets at a machine. Depending where your hotel is from Kings Cross, you can always get a taxi there for convenience.
Being a Friday night it doesn't matter if the flight is late as the Piccadilly line runs all night.
Don't buy paper tickets, each of your party needs to tap in and out at the card readers at the gates, using separate cards. The cost will automatically be calculated. It will be cheaper than paper tickets.
