Best way from Heathrow to hotel near Buckingham Palace

Hi we are traveling to London at the end of August and would like to know the best way to get from Heathrow to Buckingham Palace Road. We are seniors in fairly good shape but will be nearing jet lag. Any advice is most appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, Robin, I think the easiest and least expensive way is to take the Tube. From Heathrow, get on the Piccadilly Line to Barons Court station, exit and then walk across to the other side of the platform (there are no steps) and get the District Line (green) to Victoria Station. Once you are at Victoria Station, just head towards your hotel. Buckingham Palace Road is about a 5-6 minute walk from Victoria Station.

Edit: Another possibility is to get the National Express Bus at Heathrow T2&3. Once you are on, it's a 70 minute ride to Victoria Coach Station, then about a 10-15 min. walk to Buckingham Palace Road (depending on where you are heading to). It's a longer ride and a bit more expensive, but the advantage is that they will put your luggage underneath so you don't have to deal with it until you get out at the final station.

The easiest way is to have a private car transfer door to door. The driver meets you as you exit customs, walks you to the car and drops you in front of your hotel. Blackberry Cars and Just Airports are two popular companies on this forum. More expensive than public transport but cheaper than a taxi.

If you want to take the tube, the closest station is Victoria. . You take the Piccadilly Line out of Heathrow and change to the District Line. Change at Hammersmith and not Barons Court. The Barons Court station is undergoing major renovation through the end of 2026 and the platforms could be closed. The change at Hammersmith is easy as you just cross the platform. (About 20 feet)

The bus is also an option. Direct from Heathrow to the Victoria Coach station.

National Express (and Flixbus) is more like 40 to 45 minutes to Victoria, and is generally faster than the tube when actually on it. I know the schedules show 65 to 70- but there is massive padding in there, partly to do with connecting services at Victoria, as Nat Ex really don't want you to miss a connection, although there is a minimum 40 minute MCT at Victoria.
You find that if you look at Victoria TO Heathrow which is timed at 45 to 50 minutes, and in my experience even that 45 to 50 minutes is usually beaten, unless there is some really nasty traffic somewhere.
A large part of the route has bus lanes which helps to speed things up.

Flixbus don't have super high frequency- NE are the dominant player, but are an option if the timings suit, at least from T2/3 (Central Bus Station).

Baron's Court station is open eastbound, it is the westbound (Heathrow bound) platforms which are currently closed for work (they have closed today, 6 July). The eastbound work was completed a month or so ago.

I would still change at Hammersmith.

The change at Hammersmith and Barons Court are the easiest. Just across the platforms. If you wait for Barons Court, and TFL decides to shut the platform that day for whatever reason, you then have to change at a station where either an elevator, stairs or escalator might be needed to change lines.

But more importantly, what day of the week are you traveling? If the weekend, new advice may be needed.

FWIW, we changed at Hammersmith and it could not have been easier. No need to wait til Baron's Court. Tube is the way I would go.

Stuart, that is good to know. I think that's what kept me from taking it on my last trip.

And Robin, yes, good idea to get off at Hammersmith. But if for some reason, you can't, then Barons Court would be the next best option.
