Best way from Heathrow to Elephant & Castle

Before my question, I just have to say that the help I have received here for my family’s upcoming trip has been amazing. The amount of knowledge here is great. That being said, I have another question.

We are arriving at Heathrow airport on Sept. 25, which is a Thursday at about 0625, if we arrive on time. From what I’ve read here, I know that mornings can be a little crowed with everyone going to work. My question is, is it better to find another mode of transportation to London, or should we be fine taking the Tube? Also, if we do decide to take the Tube, about how much would it cost us to get to our stop which is Elephant & Castle. We are a group of 5, 3 adults and 2 teens. We do plan on getting an Oyster once we get to our stop. Thank you again.

I would buy the Oyster Card at the airport Tube station, so you get the best available rates for everything. Cash price for a single Tube ticket is about 4.50 pounds, no matter the distance. The Tube will be empty when you board it at Heathrow. You will make a connection downtown, for instance at Picadilly Circus, and that will be where the rush hour crowds kick in. Other public transport option - Heathrow Express to Paddington, Bakerloo to Elephant. Express has various discounts that would fit here - children would go free with one adult and the other two could have a duo ticket.

Or there is the ubiquitous car services ....

The last is a good point - don't want to walk a long way down the subway only to have to go all the way back again.

Note that there is a reduced lift service at the moment from one exit (nearer the Northern Line), the only other option being a spiral staircase. This will mean the lifts on the Bakerloo side will be busy.

Definitely Tube it during rush hour. We arrived last year during rush hour. We used a van service, and it took over an hour to get to the hotel through very slow moving traffic.
